No sound?
The commonest problem, and it is almost always the device rather than the site.
iPhone or iPad
The silent switch on the side of the phone mutes web audio even when the volume is up — flick it so the orange is hidden. Then press the speaker on the card once: Safari waits for one tap before it will play anything.
Android phone or tablet
Media volume is separate from ringer volume. Press volume up while a word is playing, or open the volume panel and raise Media. If Do Not Disturb is on, media is usually still allowed, but worth checking.
Laptop or desktop
Check the tab is not muted — browsers show a small speaker in the tab, and clicking it toggles mute for the whole site. School machines sometimes mute audio by policy; headphones in a different port is the other common one.
For students
Using it, changing what it asks you, and when it goes wrong.
Do I need an account?
No. You can practise without one and your words are saved on the device you are using. An account means they follow you to a phone, a tablet and a school laptop instead — that is the only difference, and it is free.
How do I change my exam board or tier?
On the learn screen, under Your list. Board and tier decide which words can come up at all, so it is worth getting right — Foundation is examined on fewer words than Higher.
Can I practise just one topic?
Yes. Open Topics and tap one — it starts straight away on that topic and shows how far through it you are. Tap Topics again and choose another whenever you like.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, once you have used it once. The words and the audio are stored on your device, so it keeps working on a bus or anywhere with no signal.
Something is wrong with a word
Please tell us — a wrong translation is the worst kind of bug here. Use Report an issue at the top of this page, or the link under any card while you are practising. It gets fixed the same day.

What we hold, what it costs, and how much is enough.
Is my child’s data safe?
We hold nothing that identifies a student: no name, no age, no school. If they practise without an account we hold a count of which words they have seen and nothing else. The privacy page lists it in full, and it is short.
Is it really free?
Yes. No card, no trial that ends, no seat limit, nothing to upgrade to. It is made by one GCSE Spanish tutor and costs very little to run.
How much should they be doing?
Five or ten minutes, most days. That genuinely beats an hour at the weekend — vocabulary sticks through repeated short exposure, not through length, which is why the app stops rather than pushing for more.
How do I know it is the right words?
Every word comes from AQA’s and Edexcel’s published GCSE vocabulary lists, tagged by board and by tier. Choosing yours removes what cannot come up. Not affiliated with either board.
They are home educated — does that work?
Yes, and nothing about it assumes a school. Pick the board and tier you are entering for and the list narrows to that.
For teachers and tutors
Class use, pupil data, and the paperwork your school will ask for.
Can I use this with my class?
Yes, free, with no seat limit. See For teachers — you hand out one link, optionally set to a single topic, and pupils need nothing to start.
Do my pupils need accounts?
No, and we would rather they did not. A pupil can practise with no account and no email at all — which is the shortest possible answer to give your data protection lead.
What do you hold about my pupils?
Without an account: a count of which words a device has practised. No name, no email, no age, no school, nothing that singles anybody out. See For schools for the processing terms.
Can I see how a class is doing?
Not at the moment, and that is a deliberate consequence of holding nothing that identifies a pupil. If you need class-level reporting, email — it changes what we would have to collect, so it is a conversation worth having properly.
